(More customer reviews)I received this product and one of the seams was ripped out.Contacted the seller and got great support, they sent out a replacement carrier immediately.Received the second one and after the first big storm I went through, opened up the carrier to find it filled with water.Drained it and found holes in the seams where the stitches were located on the seams.If they simply taped the seams this would not be a problem.Don't recommend this item if you are looking for something waterproof.

(More customer reviews)We used two of these bags on a recent trip. Strapped them to the top of our MDX, went over 400 miles in the rain and they kept the water out. I agree with the other review, the cover drawstring should be more durable and easier to draw tight. Did not experience any of the "peeling" or "flaking" of the coating on the inside of the bag or the cover that some of the reviews I have read on other sites mention. Overall a very good product. Hard to beat the convenience of wheeling them around, they held alot, and you pack directly into them. The top flap of the bag has a built in clear plastic pocket that closes. Worked very well for holding cosmetics, shampoo, and pretty much everything else that would be in a man's shaving bag or woman's cosmetic bag. Two bags held all the clothing and linens for a family of 6 for 10 days in the cold with some room to spare. We definitely would recommend them. I would also recommend buying the bags separately as the two bag set only comes with one big cover instead of the two individual covers.

(More customer reviews)This rack needed several modifications before it was usable on my Ford E350 full size van.The rain gutters stick out a full inch from the roof, so there's plenty to hold onto.The plastic feet had thin plastic pads that slip on to protect the paint.The pads kept falling off so I ended up taping them on.The plastic caps that fit over the steel tubes also had to be taped.Lastly, the hooks that secure the rack to the roof kept slipping off the gutters.I had to bend them with pliers then wedge a small piece of wood under them to make them hold firmly.Now that's its secure it can handle my car top carrier.However, I'm not sure if I'd trust it to carry large bulky items like ladders or lumber.

Lund 601015 Aero Bag Waterproof Roof Top Carrier Review

(More customer reviews)First of all '11 cubic feet' means a little for me so if you were wondering about the dimesions of this bag, look no further (because nor even in lund's web site you could find this valuable information). The dimensions labeled in the box are 44"x36"x16" (l,w,h). So far I stuffed it with six letter size stackable white cardboard boxes like those you find at Office Depot (15.5"x12.5"x11") intended for your backlog (by Willamette), it's not easy at first glance but, believe it or not, there's enough room for them. Te curb of the aerodinamic shape ends some 18" from the front side to the back to reach the 16" claimed. For me it seems like a parabolic shape because the height continues to increase slightly up to around 18" in the backside. With my 6 backlog boxes in place there's still some 26"x36"x5" of room above them.

Material seems to be strong, the only think I don't like is the zipper wich seems to be regular one not one intended to support strong wind force. Well, in two weeks I'll tell you what happened with this bag during my 600 mile trip.

So far, so good.

(More customer reviews)The quality of this bag is excellent; however, Amazon's PHOTOGRAPH shows a roof-top storage bag attached to the roof rack, while this larger bag was designed to be oriented from side-to-side on a REAR RACK THAT PROJECTS FROM THE TRAILER HITCH.
To use it on our roof rack I had to cut a plywood platform for it to sit on, and run additional straps over the top. Since one orients things lengthwise on top of a car, the front end of the bag does not look like the one in the photograph---the front end actually has a wind-catching flap across it! Our 2,800-mile trip included a lot of stops to apply more and more bungie cords (to stop the flapping). At least the dogs enjoyed the many stops. For the trip back we've installed a luggage-securing bungie NET over it. The BAG itself is EXCELLENT!

(More customer reviews)Wow I thought THULE was THE company for this type of stuff.Boy was I mad after a trip from NJ to SC.The bag was mounted to my roofrack and was a little noisy (top be expected).But when I got to SC and opened the bag....the horror!The inside lining shredded and flaked off on everything! There were also 2 holes along the to seam!What a mess...and I couldn't use the bag on the way home....had to ship my stuff home!I just wrote THULE....we'll see if they come thru for the customer
Sept. 12, 2005 THULE sent me a replacement, an Escape 2.Great customer service....but does this mean the Escape is better?Is the Quest inferior?There was no coorespondence with the repalcement...I'll try it out this summer.

About Thule
To say that Thule's beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Founding member Ake Skeppner sold products at windsurf competitions on the New England shoreline, exhibited the product line at a number of different trade shows, and even canvassed local retailers in the greater New York area, all from his "office"--a now-famous station wagon. Initial success was found in the small but growing sport of windsurfing where a strong, reliable roof rack was an indispensable piece of equipment. (More customer reviews)We drive a Honda Civic and have a Yakima roof rack with two bike trays, and were looking for a smaller "soft side" carrier to fit into this space.This cargo carrier fit nicely inside this space and appears easily adaptable to spaces that are not exactly 34" by 34".The carrier material is sturdy and coated on the inside with a PVC coating.The zipper is a double pull zipper, which is nice because it can be adjusted to open from one side for easy access to the contents inside.The straps are long - almost too long, in fact, so we may end up cutting off the excess strap material.The carrier is advertised as water resistant and not waterproof, and so our plan is to primarily use the carrier for things that we don't mind getting wet, and then pack other items inside a garbage bag first before putting them inside the carrier.We used the carrier for the first time this past weekend on a camping trip and it worked great!We put our folding chairs inside, along with some Thermarest pads and pillows.We drove at speeds up to 70 mph and did not notice any more noise than what we usually hear with the roof rack.We did manage to drive through a TREMENDOUS rainstorm lasting 10-15 minutes.Some of the contents inside the carrier did get a bit damp, but the pillows that were stored in a garbage bag were completely dry.Overall, we are very happy with this product and would highly recommend it!!

(More customer reviews)My wife and I purchased this product for a trip of 500 miles across Texas to go on the existing roof rack of our Toyota FJ Cruiser.It is advertised to fit most racks and it fit ours perfectly.I think we had more than 15 cubic feet of luggage, dog food, and bedding stuffed into it as we were also bringing our two huge dogs (no, they weren't in the carrier!).Loading was easy and the zippers worked fine.The only problem we had was adjusting the straps.It took forever to take them up the first time we tied it down, but on the return trip it went much easier.The strap configuration seems awkward, but possibly can be adjusted before loading, which I'll try next time.

On several reviews of similar products wind noise was mentioned, like it was to be expected, but we noticed NO noise even when driving 80mph through west Texas.The ties never loosened and the load was just as secure when we arrived as when we started.But the best thing about this product is that it REALLY IS WATERPROOF.We drove through 100 miles of pouring Gulf Coast rain on the trip home, the kind where cars on the interstate are driving 40mph with their flashers on and waiting under overpasses for it to slack up.I just knew that everything was going to be soaked when we got home.I was amazed to find that NOTHING got wet - not even damp.The design of the zipper compartment(with flaps closed by velcro) worked perfectly.We were very pleased considering that some of the similar carriers cost alot more than this one.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this carrier because our current carrier, a hitch-based carrier on the rear of the car, put too much weight on the rear of the vehicle, making it hard to steer in wet or icy conditions.

The bag is made of VERY heavy vinyl-type fabric. So heavy in fact that it is hard to open, close, and zip. But once you get it worked out (I brought it inside to warm it up, which helped a lot) it is a nice accessory.

The straps were easy to lace through the eyelets, and although it was not detailed in the instructions how to lace them through, I was able to work it out in no time. Instructions could have been clearer.

The zippers are very heavy duty, but because the fabric is so heavy they are difficult to open or close. I believe this is a function of the fabric being water resistant. I found myself trying to stretch the creases / folds out of the fabric in order to pull the zipper. Even a TINY crease will prevent the zipper from moving as the fabric is so stiff.

The zipper is covered by a large flap on the bottom that velcros to a large flap above the zipper, essentially creating a seal that I really can't imagine ever leaking (unless you put the bag on backwards, with the zipper facing forward instead of backwards). We never went through rain but we went through snow with no issues of leakage.

There was NO flapping or moving about while we were underway. The eight way staps held tight and held everything securely, without putting stress on the bag itself since it covered the bag like a net as opposed to tying to the bag.

Last of all, it held about 100 pounds of clothes and gear without any stress or strain. The van was much more manageable with the weight being put in the middle of the car instead of on the hitch. Very handy in the snowy conditions in which we were navigating.

Of course it was much less convenient than the hitch mounted unit (hard to reach), but there are tradeoffs with everything (we spent $500 on our "Cargo Carrier" for our hitch).

Hard to beat for $50!

My only real complaint is the stiffness of opening and closing the zipper. I wish they had put straps on the zippers, and I'll probably find some and do it myself.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this rooftop cargo carrier to transport our suitcases and beach items during our summer vacation to New England.We were initially concerned because it was so inexpensive for the size and worried that it might not fit a Trailblazer.Upon arrival we were pleased to find that it not only fit securely, but was rather stylish too.Although it appeared weatherproof we soon found that it was not.It began raining at the onset of our trip.About four hours in to our fourteen hour roadtrip the weatherproof lining began disintingrating.By the time we arrived at our destination all our possessions were soaked and coated in tiny grey vinyl flecks.This cargo hauler might be cheap and look nice, but it is not worth your money!

Highland 10391 Kar Pak Rainproof Soft-Sided Car Top Carrier - 15 Cubic Feet Review

(More customer reviews)We've had the Highland Kar-Pak since our first family trip to Disney World in 2002, and we've used it many a times since: trips to Disney World, trips to Gulf Shores, a few visits to Texas and, the big one, our evacuation from New Orleans a few days before Hurricane Katrina struck. Not to be overly glowing, but this thing helped us save a lot more since we could cram it full.

It holds a bundle, stores quickly, cleans up easily (bug splatter is no match for scrub brush & water, eh), is arguably leak-proof (never had a problem even through the worst rains), and attaches easily and securely (and not to dismiss another person's review/opinion, but the carrier box clearly stated "Roof Rack Mount"; however, I can see confusion with roof rack and roof bars -- those bars on the roof when you get the van/suv/etc are just styling until you add a cross-bar).

My wife came across this model locally in N.O. when we were searching for something for the roof to carry luggage on our first real driving vacation. We had looked at a lot of the hard-side ones, which were all extremely expensive and sorely lacking in capacity. She found this and we thought it might be a quick-fix but we've used it ever since and have no plans to replace it.

FWIW, a tip: get some big safety pins. Though you can tie the excess strap up it's easier to use a safety pin to pin up the excess. You don't have to, but the excess strap tends to flap in the wind and will drive you a little batty.
