Master Lock 375DAT Class III/IV Snap-On Receiver Hitch Lock with 5/8-Inch Pin Review

Master Lock 375DAT Class III/IV Snap-On Receiver Hitch Lock with 5/8 inch Pin
Average Reviews:

After spending more than I care to mention on a bike rack and a hitch-mounted storage rack I felt I needed to protect them with a hitch lock. The Master Lock 375DAT is for a 2" receiver and replaces a 5/8" pin.I looked at a few bike and hardware stores and found it to be competitively priced on Amazon. It also appeared to be of better quality and lower price than some others I found at a hitch store as well. In assessing the lock I wanted to see how well it performed in three apsects:1) Fit and ease of putting through the hitch pin opening 2)Ease of locking and opening with hitch attachments on; and3)Did it make any noise or rattle.
Overall I was more than pleased with the lock.1) With regard to placement I was pleasantly surprised to find that it slid throughmy slightly rusty receiver hitch better than any of my existing pins.I think this was because it is a better quality SST than my other pins.I also found the locking mechanism to be easier to lock in place than the conventional pin.Since the locking head is symmetrical I did not have to worry about getting the hole lined up just perfect to insert a cotter pin (also minimized knuckle scraps). 2) It was also easier to mount my storage rack attachment since you approach the lock from the side rather than having toaddress the cotter pin through the attachment.I had also intended to use with my bike rack which is held in place with a bolt.I forgot the bolt is held in place with a nut welded to the inside of the receiver tube so the lock is unable to go through. Not the fault of the lock, just disappointing that I either have to keep using the bolt or somehow remove to enable the lock to pass through.3) I was a little concerned that there was some play in the lock and that it might create some noise. The play I noticed helps engage the key in the lock and does not appear to be a problem.
My only complaint is that I wish Amazon carried a version for my other car that has a 1 1/4" receiver which needs a 1/2" pin!

We LOVE this roof top rack. Bike was wobbly at first but my husband realized he didn't have the rack tightened down as much as it should be to the truck. Problem solved. We have 5 kids so there is 7 bikes in all. The bike is very sturdy up there. I am looking to buy another one now.(and a hitch rack) We have a yukon so as a women I don't think I cld put my bike up there but my husband is 6'5". So the height of your vehicle and your height depends if this really works for YOU. You also need an easy release front wheel. Otherwise this would be a pain to have tools w you to remove your wheel. I would have 4 of them if that wouldn't be to pricey but for my budget it would be. we did have to buy a lock separately for it, you don't have to have this but if you plan on leaving your bikes unattended its a good idea.

Product Description:
Yakima's most affordable bike rack, the CopperHead fork-mount rooftop bike rack is strong, attractive, and functional. The CopperHead is equipped with a sturdy fork that attaches quickly and easily to your bike's SKS-lockable skewer. As a result, you can install just about any type of bike on the rack, including mountain bikes, road bikes, and hybrids. (The CopperHead accommodates quick-release wheel skewers, so owners of bikes with nutted front wheels, triple clamp forks, or forks with dropout spacing should consider other mounts instead.) The aerodynamic fork block, meanwhile, adds stability--a must when driving at high speeds or on gravel roads. And despite the low price tag, the CopperHead fits all round and square rooftop crossbars, along with all common bike wheel and tire sizes. Easy to install, the CopperHead comes with Yakima's lifetime warranty.

When you use buy a rack, there are couple of things you want.Ease of installation, confidence in support during your trip and affordable. This product meets and exceeds those requirements. This is the best alternative to a hitch mount. We purchased this rack for my wife's 2006 Ford Freestyle and have not been disappointed.I didn't want to have a hitch installed, so this rack was perfect. After owning 2-3 racks, I can say with confidence, that his makes the others look cheap. This rack is extremely durable and extremely easy to use.I recommend it to everyone.

4 Bicycle Bike Rack Receiver Mount Fits 1-1/4 2" Hitch Review

4 Bicycle Bike Rack Receiver Mount Fits 1-1/4 2' Hitch

I've had this bike transporter for about a year now. The idea is great but the construction & design is poor. Yesterday I loaded it with 4 bikes as usual (2 adults and 2 kid bikes) and after about a block since leaving my hose, we heard a big "thud" and a horrible noise. Stopped to check and "Lo and behold" the base had broken, the 4 bikes fell and I dragged them for a few feet before stopping. Luckily, this happened at about 10 miles per hour and not in the highway where I was headed. It could have caused a major accident. I forgot the name of the company that makes them otherwise I'd sue them for the inherent risk. I had used it without problem until now. This was while using the 2 inch adapter... If you already have this transporter be very careful and never load 4 bikes!!

Yakima Hold Up Bike Rack w/ Lock Cable Review

Yakima Hold Up Bike Rack w/ Lock Cable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This rack works beautifully.I have owned other Yakima roof rack products, and this particular rack stands up to the quality I would expect from Yakima.

I chose this design over the top tube clamp type of receiver hitch rack because the top tubes on my bikes are far from straight. This really makes them difficult to mount on the clamp type rack models. If you ever see an SUV riding down the street with a bike tire pointed towards the sky, you will see what I mean. I mounted this rack on a four-door saloon, so that scenario will look even more hideous. As you probably know from the product description, the way the rack secures the bike is by the front tire.So the bike sits very level regardless of the shape of your frame. That said, your tire has to be able to hold air at the recommended pressure for your particular tire in order to keep everything tight.

I will warn: The rack is pretty heavy, so taking the rack on and off the car can be a challenge if you think 50 pounds is too much to carry.Saris sells something called Thelma that about half the weight (and a little cheaper) if weight is a concern. In my mind, the extra weight gives me a little more assurance that the rack and bike will stay put at speed in the stiff breeze that is flowing over my trunk lid.It does wiggle a little bit back there as you drive, and that made me nervous for about the first 30 miles thinking I did something wrong but got over that feeling quickly.

Mounting your bike takes less than a minute. It is so easy it is almost scary. Before you grab your bike, fold the Pivot arm and wheel tray away from the center of the rack and release the rear wheel strap.Grab your bike, place the front wheel in the wheel tray, lift the pivot arm and ratchet it down on top of your front tire.Secure the back wheel with the wheel strap and off you go.You can use the included lock to secure your bike to the rack, and rack to the car, if you expect to make stops or leave the bikes unattended for a length of time.I have only locked one bike up so far so I am not sure the supplied 6 feet of cable would be sufficient to lock two bikes and the rack to the car.The cable lock is not going to keep a determined thief from stealing your bike, but it will keep the passer by from lifting it off for a joy ride.

I have done at least 500 miles with a bike on the back of my car so far and have not experienced a single problem to date. The rack keeps the bikes far enough away that you don't have to worry about scratching the car.Likewise, the rack does not touch the frame of the bike so no damage there either. Oh! The bottle opener works too.

Yakima Viper Fork Mount Rooftop Bicycle Carrier Review

Yakima Viper Fork Mount Rooftop Bicycle Carrier
Average Reviews:

I used to have two Steelhead bike carriers but one was damaged during an unfortunate incident involving roof-mounted bikes and a low parking structure (ouch).I bought the Viper as it seemed like an upgrade, and I must say it's a bit more solidly build than the Steelhead, but there's a few things I don't like.

I don't keep the racks on my truck all the time, only when I'm going biking.Taking off and mounting the Steelhead was basically a clip-on task, and didn't change the skewer length so it was always ready to fit your forks.Putting the Viper on involved completely removing the skewer bolt and re-threading on the lock mechanism from the end, having to thread it on an overly long length of threads. And this is done by having to hold up the lock lever and turn this rough knurled knob that always chafes my fingertips, and it's tough to do because only a small edge of the knob is exposed when you lift up the lever. Then when it's mounted, you have to put your bike up and adjust the threading again to get it to the right width and tension for your bike forks.Taking off involves the reverse unthreading.
I know the different design adds security, but for me it's an annoying extra several minutes and raw fingertips each time.

Yakima Holdup Tray Mount Review

Yakima Holdup Tray Mount
Average Reviews:

The Yakima Hold-Up 2 is considerably heavy, 60 lb., giving it a beefy reputation. Though it has a few design flaws that make the owner of expensive mountain bikes (me) go hmmmm....

First it's easy to assemble and mount to your truck. It's even easier to mount bikes on taking little to no time at all.

The Design Flaws:
1.)Plastic components on criticle pieces, one being the ratcheting devices on the wheels to hold the bike down should've been made of metal and the strap that feeds it should be high tension rubber, not plastic as the ratchet can slip on the teeth freeing the tension on the bike.

2.) The 'strong arm' that holds the bike down on the front wheel can come loose. It too has very shallow teeth in which to grab (stamped into metal)again using plastic on metal.

3.) The MOST critical piece that did in fact fail more than the above metioned flaws is the pin that keeps the bike rack level. It only goes in just over a quarter of an inch. As the bike travels any bump frees the pin, it catches when it comes down and essentially ratchets itself free causing the rack to drop. It doesn't drop to the ground thank goodness but why even have it drop any? It should bottom out when level and a pin should go all the way through with a cotter pin of sorts to keep it in place. There is a hole on the other side, so I drilled the pin side out and put an eight grade bolt with locking nut on the other side.

4.) The two bolts that hold each platform are put in upside down, along with the bracket,,..wtf? It should mount on top. Another thing is that in about two minutes you can unscrew these with a wrench and take the bikes along with half your rack. Not a good anti-theft system.

5.) The cable it comes with is a joke, along with the locking mechanism that bolts through your reciever. You have to pound the lock on to get it to lock. The mechanism is comprised of a soft lead like metal that shaves off easily, not a good thing when used on a hardened steel bolt that it comes with, it weakens it then is useless.

If Yakima fixed these it would have one bomber bike carrier. It is heavy duty, just the design flaws are critical in keeping your bikes on the rack securely. I had no problem with them falling off, they just came loose, the pin backed out several times and the rack fell several times, not good going down a highway.

Lund 601019 Fold Down Bike Carrier, 2 Bikes Review

Lund 601019 Fold Down Bike Carrier, 2 Bikes

My 2 favorite features on this bike rack were the built in locks on the carrier unit and the adjustable bar that moves from 90 degrees to 45 degrees by just removing a pin (the pin attached by a wire so you can't lose it.)I am able to swing open the back door enough to shift luggage around or let the dog jump in and out.Only drawback was the slight mark that I saw on my tire cover which I was able to remove. It's great to be able to lock the bikes in place for times when I have to park and step away, though technically, if someone pulled the bar out of the hitch they could take it all which is the case with any rack I suppose.

The $95 price was great. I almost bought it from another online store for $60 more than Amazon plus they had it in stock with free shipping so I got it in 2 days with my AmazonPrime membership. It's not heavy and it's easy to take on and off when not in use and store in the garage.I would definitely recommend it.

I agree with other review; plate that is suppose to secure bike to rack is for smaller framed bikes, which many bikes today are not smaller diameter bikes...wasted my money, ok for short hauls (5-10 miles), used it on one long haul and felt as if i needed to stop all the time and check it.had a similar bike rack that was excellent with one plate that secured all bikes instead of multiple plates and screws....very disappointed...would not recommend and should specify that it DOES NOT come with a hitch pin!!!!!!

This rack easily fits on my 1998 Jetta, almost like it was made for it. It's sturdy despite being relatively inexpensive compared with other rack systems and easily (and quickly) disassembles. Plus it looks cool.

BUT...
Do not buy from The Rack Warehouse. Worst customer service I've seen in a company in a long time, and honestly, that is saying something.

Beware Amazon users!

Don't fall for this item, there is no product support and it comes INCOMPLETE. YES IT IS NOT USABLE FOR 99% of users out of the box.

It requires a 2 inch tow extender tube that is IMPOSSIBLE to find. It is useless out of the box. The manufacturer's website has the part in question for 29.99, but you CAN'T ORDER IT!

Please move on to another item WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE ATTACHMENT POINT to your 2" reciever. Notice how there is only one view of the item and it does not show how it attaches to your tow reciever. Let the BUYER BEWARE, I did not.

Be prepared to spend over $150 for a true bike carrier, and don't be fooled by the price.

I am in the process of trying to return this item but the seller is not cooperating, they probably know something is up.

This hitch carrier will work fine for basic cargo carrying; note the actual product does not include the high side-rails (which are optional).Build quality is okay, but assembly is a chore, and the hitch tube is not as rugged as I would have liked (it has thinner walls than I would have expected). Also the hitch tube is very square (the edges are not well rounded) and will not fit the receiver on one of my vehicles because of the square edges.Test the receiver tube as soon as you get it to make sure it will work for your vehicle before you go to the trouble of assembly. No hitch pin is included.
